New York   grey day

just a glimpse, stay tuned for more to explore  ·  MilesAstray unfolds in retrospect. I was living these stories full time, now I’m penning them down. Head over to the countries page for the latest places/stories.

a glimpse

glimpse: A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE | Peering out their lofty towers, New Yorkers might be looking down on New Jersey – but who’s got the better view really? Of course, the concrete is always taller on the other side and it’s easy to confuse a place we see with the place to be. Ah well, that’s neither here nor there.

glimpse: SLEEPING IN THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS | We had just come down from the top of the Empire State Building. For the last two hours we had been part of an infinite torrential stream of goofy tourists, climbing up and down New York's most iconic landmark. But when we stepped back out onto the nightly street, the voices of midtown had died down already. Here, only meters from the glamorous sightseeing crowds, we passed by an elderly man, who almost disappeared in the gloomy marble all around him. Fast asleep on a chair, he was forgotten by the crowds oblivious to his presence. It was as though he just couldn't keep up anymore with the pace of a city that never sleeps.

Looking at it from the outside, I can’t help seeing bars in the symmetry that comes with the sterile and institutional blueprints of office buildings around the world. see more

Night Delight

allures of the dark side

...for the daring nocturnal creatures among us, there is a deserted, silent world waiting after hours; and like moths we flutter towards its discoveries, wherever a speck of light flecks the darkness.   see more

wilderness heart

Raw Patagonian horizons stretching all the way to rough coastlines in Newfoundland and an abundance of wilderness wonders in-between: from azure glaciers, psychedelic lagoons and altitude canyons to ash-spewing volcanoes, jungle greens and soaring falls. see more

North America

from the back alleys to the avenues and back

From across the pond a child had dreamt what are memories now. What the books and films and songs had suggested was all true – the cities were as vast as they were tall and their lights always a million more than fathomable, and all the expected unusual cars were parked in all the right alleys.  see more
