Hey there everybody,

I hope all is well!

MilesAstray must have looked a bit static in these days, at least to those of you who follow me on social media and check in with my website regularly. Behind the scenes, however, I’ve been all the more active.

Over the last couple of weeks I have traveled to remote villages in Botswana to conduct interviews with Peace Corps volunteers for an article I intend to write. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the PC – it’s a US government volunteer program, which has been active in more than 130 countries since its beginnings in 1961. The core mission is to “promote world peace and friendship by fulfilling three goals: To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women. To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served. To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.”

Since I am personally very interested in volunteer work with all its benefits and pitfalls it was an opportune moment to gain an inside perspective by staying with volunteers in various villages throughout Botswana, where the PC is mostly engaged in HIV prevention. The article will be published on MilesAstray within the next couple of weeks, but here’s a little appetizer in pictures:
