MIDDLE OF NOWHERE | It felt almost like your car had to break down to get you to that place. As though it was the privilege of the stranded to find that tiny island in the middle of a sandy sea. Even the name—Solitaire—suggested at the very least the possibility that you were now a character from a book or movie or game. One tire later, we were back on our way, the desert settlement vanishing in the rearview mirror like a mirage.
