Athens
A faint air of grandeur streamed through the colossal pillars of the Parthenon as the ruin lay bare before us like a whale skeleton’s rib cage. Stranded atop an outcrop in the middle of Athens, the cluster of marble bones was surrounded by others—devastated remains of the Acropolis, the once pulsating citadel in the heart of Ancient Greece.

back road academic
A PhD was never for me. I didn’t thirst for a higher higher education after graduation. Unintentional rhymes, but they speak to a poetic inclination in me that academia couldn’t satisfy. It just didn’t rhyme.

Jakarta
Well, Jakarta, there is no easy way to say this, but you didn’t make my Top 10. Or the Top 50, or the top, or even just the list. But then again, you know that I disdain these lists and that I made this one up just to tease you. You’re alright Jakarta. Sure, you are no Paris, but why would you be, or want to be? I'm sorry if I'm getting under your skin here, but see, that's exactly where I want to be. For yours isn’t a superficial Paris-beauty; yours is an underneath-beauty.

it's me, but it's not
„Looks strangely familiar, but more strange than familiar,” I said to my friend Boris Eldagsen when he shared this post with me. This is me, but it’s not my face. My facial features have been “AId.”

Venice
When is Venice? Because it doesn’t look like it is now. It is a replica of a fairy tale and at least one hundred million stories old.

D I G I T A L E Y E Z E D
One of Paris’ most darling angles, Trocadéro plaza is popular with tourists who want a piece of the Eiffel tower to take home. And while there is no shortage of kitschy replicas being hawked all over the square at all but odd hours—and with little interruptions caused by police—today’s favorite souvenirs are photos.

Another Tragedy MADE IN USA
While the public discourse around the ICE killing of Minnesota woman Renee Good has all the right ingredients for a hot stew of opinions—spicy camera angles, juicy legislation, and a good pinch of political finger-pointing—it is lacking a solid portion of clear-cut common sense. Something that isn’t mush. Something we can all agree on.

crisp beginnings & twist endings
Took a little breather after a short year of long days. Here’s to crisp beginnings and twist endings! Because that's all we ever choose, right? The beginning. To start something, and how. How it ends, is typically out of our hands. No matter how this 2026 will turn out for you and me, let's get started on those beginnings.

making a different difference
I haven't been posting much on social media this summer, because it all feels somewhat trivial when following the news on Gaza. No matter what side or fence one sits on—politically and ethically—in this historically complex conflict, there is no justification for the Israeli government’s indiscriminate and genocidal military strategy.

we are jeopardizing reality and I messed with an AI to prove it
While my viral F L A M I N G O N E stunt—a real photo winning two AI awards—was proof that mother nature and her human interpreters still beat the machine, it also magnified the ever-finer line between real and fake imagery. Yesterday, I broke the rules of another contest to show that we are eroding reality as we know it. The twist: the juror was an AI.

viral spiral, one year on: F L A M I N not so G O N E
Always nice to put a face to a name. This awkward hero needs no introduction: it's FLAMIN GO, seen here taking a moment off from being F L A M I N G O N E. Exactly one year ago, my buddy went viral after winning two AI awards as a real living being. Its message resonated so well with people that some large social media accounts are featuring it again these days, leading to requests like a TV interview in the US and a Korean book.

13 years, 13 lessons—life, love, and that whole humanity shebang
13 years ago, I traded home for the world. A great deal, if not without sacrifice. What started out as a one-year baby-trip is now a teenager. Enough time to learn a thing or two or thirteen. For my 13th rebirthday, I want to share these little brain muffins, each one accompanied by a new print to drive that lesson home.

true lies, ancient news, and later the latest
it's getting AI-y out there, but there's also real news Is it just me, or is it getting pretty AI-y out there? Artificial intelligence is making inroads into more and more aspects of daily life — at times sneaking in undetected, at times entering the arena of public discourse in a flaming chariot. The creative community is an obvious group to collide with the new technology. To some creatives, AI is just a lie. Others speak their truths with it, enamored with a new form of ex
